Comparing core analyses and well logs using a Hungarian gas field as example

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to build small-scale genetic models of a reservoir by comparing the small and medium scale information derived from core analyses and well logs. The examined gas field is situated in the eastern part of the Pannonian Basin System. For the numerical solution several one (univariate) and multivariable (multivariate) statistical methods were used to describeone and multidimensional similarities. Finally a multivariable identifying model summarizes the information gained in different scales. The analyses showed that there was a correlation between the rock physical properties and the shapes of well logs. The porosity and the permeability did not depend on the individual log shapes but the most typical log shapes of the rock body which resulted from the electro-facies. The oscillation of the pore throat size distribution caused small changes on the log. This model can be regarded as a tool for classifying new information according to the genetic hierarchy identified.

The Kangan Formation (Early Triassic) is one of the most important gas reservoirs in the Zagros fold-thrust belt. The study area is located in the west of Hormozgan Province and on the Gavbandi highland. This field is one of the important gas production anticlines in the SW Iran. To investigate the reservoir quality of the Kangan Formation in these wells, 163 microscopic thin sections were prep...

The current study proposes a two-step approach for pore facies characterization in the carbonate reservoirs with an example from the Kangan and Dalanformations in the South Pars gas field. In the first step, pore facies were determined based on Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) data incorporation with the Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA) method. In the next step, polynomial meta...
متن کاملFormation interface detection using Gamma Ray log: A novel approach
There are two methods for identifying formation interface in oil wells: core analysis, which is a precise approach but costly and time consuming, and well logs analysis, which petrophysists perform, which is subjective and not completely reliable. In this paper, a novel coupled method was proposed to detect the formation interfaces using GR logs. Second approximation level (a2) of GR log gained...
متن کاملPore throat size characterization of carbonate reservoirs by integrating core data, well logs and seismic attributes
Investigation of pore system properties of carbonate reservoirs has an important role in evaluating the reservoir quality and delineating high production intervals. The current study proposes a three-step approach for pore throat size characterization of these reservoirs, by integrating core data, well logs and 3D seismic volume. In this respect, first the pore throats size was calculated using...
